About the Book
"I haven't failed. I just found 10,000 ways that won't work." – Thomas Edison.
So begins The Diet Survivor's Handbook: 60 Lessons in Eating, Acceptance and Self-Care. While all diets can produce short-term weight loss, 95-98% of all dieters regain the lost pounds, often plus some, within 1-5 years. You are taught that you are to blame for gaining back the weight and that the only choice is to go on another diet, this time with more determination and willpower. But to you we say, "You haven't failed your diet, your diet has failed you." This book explains the physiological and psychological reasons that diets don't work. It encourages you to become a "diet survivor," by getting off the diet roller coaster and jumping on the non-diet bandwagon of living fully and joyfully in your body through the life-affirming action of feeding yourself based on internal cues of hunger and satiety.
In the first part of the book, Becoming a Diet Survivor, we introduce the concept that diet failure is not your fault, and that the culprit can be identified. You will learn how to move from a place of shame about past dieting experiences, to one of empowerment, as you embark on the journey of reclaiming your life. Part two of the book invites you to live as a diet survivor. This section is divided into three chapters comprised of 60 lessons in eating, acceptance and self-care. Each lesson is followed by an activity that allows you to make use of the material provided in the lesson. Each activity is then followed by a quote, which serves to entertain and inspire the diet survivor as you end dieting, and begin living a life of peace with food, your body, and yourself.
